28th March 2009 (Earth Hour)

Earth Hour has just passed. Hope everyone enjoyed the short but meaningful moment. Was quite touched that not only students but most of the residents around here were aware and showed their care towards this event. Everywhere was dark during this hour except for street lights which shined dimly.

For those who have participated in this event, give yourself a pat on the shoulder.

Our votes for the Earth

Also not forget to mention that there was slight drizzle during the Earth Hour as if tears of joy from Mother Earth.

An important to note to all, we must play our parts and make it a habit to conserve energy in order to ensure a better environment for our next generation.

A beautiful sight which has to be conserved

60 Earth Hour

In this modern days, we tend to be blinded by the marvelous night view of our cities which is filled with colorful neon lights.

KL Night View

Do you still remember when was the last time you took sometime off to admire the stars?

Human has developed in such a pace that we have began to neglect the natural beauty which was created by God. True enough technology has made our life much easier and comfortable, but at the same time we are paying a hefty price by causing global warming.

Global Warming

Have you noticed that there are heavier downpour and snowfalls as well as the earlier arrival of Spring? These climate change is the obvious affect of global warming.

Wonder how we can contribute to counter global warming except by minimizing the usage of CFC based products? You can play a part in this coming 28th of March 2009 by turning off the lights for Earth hour to cast your vote for action on climate change.

Earth Hour

The main purpose of WWF's Earth Hour is to send a clear message to leaders all over the World that they need to act on climate change.

For your information, Earth Hour is an annual event held on the last Saturday on March each year. In order to show our support, we are advised to turn off our non-essential lights and electrical appliances for 1 hour starting from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on this coming Saturday (28th March).

Currently, 1760 cities and towns across 80 countries have committed to this event. This will be a historical event to witness the extinguishment of lights in the iconic landmarks and skylines all over the World.

The Sky Tower in Auckland switched off lights during the Earth Hour

Taken from Earth Hour Web site, there are 10 activities for us to spend during the Earth Hour and reduce our carbon footprint:

1. Attend a local Earth Hour event or organise your own by throwing an Earth Hour street party with your neighbours
2. Gather family & friends for a night picnic in your local park and look at the stars
3. Enjoy a family dinner by candlelight
4. Organise a treasure hunt in the dark
5. Take the dog for a night walk
6. Have a candle-lit bath
7. Sit in the dark and share stories
8. Organise a family night playing board games
9. Share a romantic night in with your loved one
10. Upload your ‘on the night’ photos and videos to flickr and YouTube respectively, and then add them to the Earth Hour flickr group and the global YouTube Group.

Maybe that is the time when we can truly enjoy our surrounding which brings us closer to the nature.

Please bear in mind that our Earth needs your votes and TOGETHER we can make a different, as the US President, Barack Obama's famous quote "YES, WE CAN".

Let us take the lyrics of Michael Jackson "Heal the World" chorus as a reminder to all of us,

Heal The World
Make It A Better Place
For You And For Me
And The Entire Human Race
There Are People Dying
If You Care Enough
For The Living
Make A Better Place
For You And For Me

Here's another music video of MJ's "Earth Song",

Each of us have to contribute a little to safe the Earth. Again, Remember, OFF your lights on this 28th March, vote for our Earth. Mother nature needs you and me :)

Buddha Jumps Over the Wall

Hi guys, this post was supposed to be done during the CNY, but it's better to be late than never, right?

Came across an article in Star Newspaper that wrote about a soup called "Buddha Jumps Over the Wall" (佛跳墙).

This soup costs a fortune as it is touted to be the world's most expensive soup. According to the article, each bowl costs £108 (RM606). Let's break down this price in one's meal. In Malaysia, normally a pack of chicken rice costs RM3.00

and with RM606 you can actually get two hundred and two (202) packs! Assume that you have chicken rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you will have to take 67 BLOODY days to finish all THESE.

I can imagine what you will do when you see another plate of chicken rice on the 68th day.

Sorry, i just can't hold back my imagination.

Ok, enough with the joke (if you think it's one :D). Now, let's see what makes this soup so expensive and yet there are still demands from people all over the world.

Originally, there are a total of 18 luxurious main ingredients. Some of it are Shark fin, Abalone, Sea cucumber, Scallops, Shark's lips, Fish maw, Clam, Ham etc. and 12 additional ingredients.

It's said that, this soup needs at least 2 days to stew. All the ingredients are put into a clay jar and cooked with intense heat followed by low heat.

According to folks' tale, the soup is so tempting and even a vegetarian monk will sneak out of the monastery (jump over the wall) to steal a taste.

Since it's highly recommended with its superb taste and ingredients, it wouldn't hurt to have a try. But whether to spend the 2 months food expenditure on a bowl of soup is another question.

Spot the Difference (The Ultimate Challenge)

Hi guys, it's been awhile since we last updated this blog. Were busy with some of our projects.

Recently, we're hooked up with a game called "spot the difference" in Facebook. A game which requires your concentration and alertness. It's difficult at the beginning but it's quite tempting since you are only allowed to play once in 24 hours. However, this game will get easier and easier by the day as you'll get familiar with the photos in the database.

Here's my recent score, 233,372 on the 16th March 2009.

Currently my world ranking is only at 2730, my ultimate target is to be the world NUMBER 1 in this game.

Nothing much but just a game to pass our free time.

Hope you guys will try this and do enjoy the game.
